Education Article: How Project-Based Learning Builds 21st-Century Skills
Suzie Boss' article "How Project-Based Learning Builds 21st-Century Skills" describes one communities attempt to bring PBL to the classroom. I believe that the PBL model can be successful but as the article states the change is not easy. Transformation and continued creation of valuable models and material for students takes time, effort, and some trial and error; the key term being error. The need for feedback and revision is one of the obstacles to this model. My favorite unit of the year is Project Citizen, a problem solving unit. I love this unti but the time and effort is substantial - but just as I explain to my students "to learn is an action that requires effort" and to teach requires more effort too. This article is a brief overview and no means the comprehensive solution but a good starting point.
